The one presiding god of Val, a Poseidon-esque deity.
Details
Our Lady of the Deep is depicted, in some tellings, as a great mermaid — an Ursula-style figure with a giant octopus lower half and a beautiful woman’s upper half; many people have never actually seen her (e00 01:34:44). She has a real physical effect on the world: her clerics can change the weather in their favour, or turn the creatures of the sea against their enemies, if they hold her favour (e00 01:34:44).
Val’s pirate bands are largely devout, having spent most of their lives at sea, at her mercy (e00 01:34:44). Her culture holds that voluntarily entering the ocean, outside of falling in by accident, is a form of blasphemy — an offering only she has the right to accept or reject (e00 01:35:46). Vargus reveres her mostly out of the pervasive superstition of shipboard life, while otherwise deferring to whoever holds the most immediate power over him (e00 01:36:50).
