The central continent of Ereboros, and where the campaign begins.
Details
Edyrea is roughly the size of Australia, large enough to be divided into nine realms (e00 00:17:54). Wriem is its capital and main city (e00 00:18:55). On the surface, life on Edyrea has generally been good — until very recently (e00 00:18:55). Beneath the surface lies The Forgotten Depths, as large as the surface world, home to demons, devils, and spawns of The Pale (e00 00:19:57).
Landaluce, the God-Queen, is the only pure-blooded Transcendent who resides physically on Edyrea; she rules from Wriem, and has nine children who each govern one of the nine realms and answer only to her (e00 02:07:12, e00 02:11:25).
Law
Law on Edyrea functions mostly through vows, oaths, and agreements, overseen by Vormonde‘s priests and his roaming judges, called Arbiters (e00 02:15:30). The land’s basic legal code, the Edyrean Common Standard, is recited as: “Life should be protected. Land should be honored. None should attack the helpless. None should live as a slave. The dead should rest. All wrongs shall be weighed. None shall besmirch the queen’s name. There was nothing before the queen. And there is nothing after.” (e00 02:17:37). These broad tenets are interpreted loosely and inconsistently from town to town, generally to the benefit of the powerful (e00 02:17:37).
Before Saint Sienna‘s lullaby (200 years ago), continents were at war, killing each other on sight; since then, the nine realms generally get along, with occasional conflicts between the God-Queen’s children but nothing resembling a full-scale war (e00 02:13:27).
