A tall, dark-haired elf of the Nightforge guild who fights with ice, who warned the party to get their story straight because Gilbert would tell on them (e02 00:29). Mikhail Asimi says Caspian came out of a portal as a baby 25 years ago and doesn’t know he isn’t from here, and has asked the party to take him with them to Holst (e04 01:16, e04 01:17, e04 01:19).
Details
Caspian is the guildie who doesn’t talk while the others chat; he stands with his hands in his pockets and looks unimpressed (e01 00:05, e01 00:06). When he breathes, fog comes out of his mouth even though it is warm outside (e01 00:06). He greets Orrin with “we’ve been waiting for you for a while” (e01 00:09), asks what is in the crate (e01 00:12), and tells Orrin, who seems a little scared, to stick close to him (e01 00:13). He says the Magisterium sent them one of its sorcerers as extra help (e01 00:18). Gilbert says Caspian has never been down a fissure before (e01 00:10), and Caspian himself says the fissure below Wriem is his first, and that he is nowhere near the strongest (e02 00:28, e02 00:29). He has been told that things from portals don’t talk, and just kill, pillage, and murder; he has never talked to anyone from a portal (e02 00:32, e02 00:32, e02 00:32).
In the fight he jumps off a ledge onto a ramp of ice that forms under him, blows an ice breath that freezes ten to twenty goblins at once, and fights with two ice daggers (e01 00:22, e01 01:07). By the end of the fight his ice attacks were dripping with water and much weaker (e01 01:28), and he was standing in a puddle with no ice left (e01 01:42). To close one of the fissure’s portals, he put his pinky through it, and the portal severed it (e01 01:54, e01 01:55). He can draw the mist and moisture out of a cavern and crystallize it into a structure of ice, a ritual that took him 15 to 20 minutes and left him completely spent (e02 00:34, e02 00:35, e02 01:04); he walks up ice effortlessly, very much at home on it (e02 01:09, e02 01:09). He is allergic to sesame (e04 01:19). In e05 – The Mask of Humanity Falls From Capital the party hears him laugh for the first time (e05 00:12). He says it’s not easy being an orphan in Wriem; he knows sellers and buyers in Trade Alley, and says he’ll fit in in the lower parts of town (e05 00:44, e05 00:47, e05 00:47). He calls the tower to Elysium a lie to keep everyone in order: no one ascends, and those in power have no interest in sharing it (e05 00:52, e05 00:55, e05 00:55).
Origin
About 25 years ago, fighting monsters down in the deeps, Mikhail Asimi saw a portal open and a baby come out of it, and broke some rules for the first time (e04 01:16, e04 01:16, e04 01:16). That baby is Caspian, now 25 (e04 01:17, e04 01:19). Caspian doesn’t know he’s not from here, and Mikhail thinks it’s better that way; Mikhail masks him from being detected as anti-essence, with his mind (e04 01:17, e04 01:17, e04 01:17, e04 01:17). Caspian has pills he believes protect him from the Hollowing Plague; they don’t do anything, and he doesn’t know that (e04 01:18, e04 01:18). Mikhail says Caspian has a lot of power and a lot to learn, and wants him away from the Queen’s Guard, the guilds, and the systems built up around here (e04 01:18, e04 01:18, e04 01:18).
Story so far
The Fissure Below Wriem (e01–e04)
Caspian judged the fissure beyond the guild, warned the party that Gilbert would tell on them, and built an ice stair out of the cavern (e02 00:11, e02 00:29, e02 01:03). Mikhail Asimi later told the party that Caspian came out of a portal as a baby, and asked them to take him to Holst (e04 01:16, e04 01:19). See e02 – We're Not From Here, e04 – A Spot to Rest our Pot.
The Road to Holst (e05–)
e05. Caspian called the party to the markets through a sending stone, short of gold — the Nightforge guild isn’t flush, he said, and Asimi is deep in debt — and picked out a thousand-gold job recovering stolen relics (e05 00:11, e05 00:12, e05 00:29). He fought Lauren for the job paper and led the party through Trade Alley to Anise, who knows him (e05 00:37, e05 01:03). See e05 – The Mask of Humanity Falls From Capital.
