Mikhail Asimi

NPCalivefirst mentioned e02 01:12
Illustration of Mikhail Asimi

A tier-six Beaumondian metamortal of the Nightforge guild, potentially the second strongest meta on Edyrea, who fights with seven orbiting swords (e02 01:12, e03 00:09, e03 00:10). He knows the party isn’t from here; after they helped civilians during the moon goblin attack on Wriem, he told them to hide at Willy’s Wards and keep away from the Queen’s Guard (e03 00:12, e03 01:40). Saying they seem immune to the Hollowing Plague, he sent them to Holst to find a cure, together with Caspian, whom he has secretly protected since Caspian came out of a portal as a baby 25 years ago (e04 01:13, e04 01:16, e04 01:19, e04 01:19).

Details

Appearance and manner

He wears a long coat and no armor, and stands with his hands in his pockets while seven swords of different shapes, sizes, and lengths orbit him slowly, never touching him, the ground, or each other (e02 01:12, e02 01:12, e02 01:12). He looks at a building-sized moon goblin the way you might look at a fly on a window (e02 01:13). He is laissez-faire and loses interest quickly, mostly avoiding eye contact (e03 01:13, e03 01:39, e03 01:40).

Profile

Orrin knows his profile: a Beaumondian metamortal, tier six, whose powers include flight, speed, strength, durability, an incredibly high battle IQ, and the seven swords of Akaron, each blade with its own name, history, and ability (e03 00:09, e03 00:10, e03 00:10). All of his abilities are a result of incredible telekinetic powers: “he imagines it and the world listens” (e03 00:10, e03 00:10). He is potentially the second strongest meta on Edyrea and does not play well with others (e03 00:10). His loyalty is to the Nightforge guild, an outfit of predominantly tier eights; his prior affiliation was the Prophecy of the Snake, right up until the day he killed their leader, a crime he was absolved of — only he and the Queen’s Guard know why (e03 00:10, e03 00:10, e03 00:10).

Telepathy

He is also a very powerful telepath (e03 00:28). He can gently probe the surface of people’s emotions and minds, which is not divination magic (e03 00:11, e03 00:11), and can project an image of himself into their minds while he is fighting elsewhere, smoke and cinder flowing through it, with time seeming to slow (e03 00:27, e03 00:27, e03 00:28). With his mind, he masks Caspian from being detected as anti-essence, and says he could do the same for the party (e04 01:17, e04 01:17, e04 01:17).

Caspian

About 25 years ago, fighting monsters down in the deeps, Mikhail saw a portal open and a baby come out of it; for the first time, he broke some rules (e04 01:16, e04 01:16, e04 01:16). That baby is Caspian, now 25, who doesn’t know he’s not from here; Mikhail thinks it’s better that way (e04 01:17, e04 01:17, e04 01:19). Caspian has pills he believes protect him from the plague, which don’t do anything, and Mikhail wants the illusion kept up (e04 01:18, e04 01:18, e04 01:18). Along with the pills, Mikhail gave the party a stone, through which Caspian reaches them (e05 00:07, e05 00:11).

Views

Mikhail says that were anyone ever to go against “upper management,” he would hypothetically be one of their closest friends — “gods save the queen” (e04 01:16, e04 01:16, e04 01:16). He can’t go after the plague himself: a zombified Mikhail running around would be pretty bad (e04 01:14, e04 01:14). According to Caspian, he is in more debt than anyone Caspian has ever met, and is not the hardest worker in the world (e05 00:12, e05 00:12, e05 00:12).

Story so far

The Fissure Below Wriem (e01–e04)

Mikhail killed a building-sized moon goblin in a Wriem street, and Caspian told the party to stay out of his way (e02 01:13, e02 01:13). During the attack he pointed the party toward civilians who needed help, held off the giant moon goblin until Gabriel Landaluce killed it, told Vargus “You’re wrong,” and sent the party to Willy’s Wards (e03 00:12, e03 01:40, e03 01:40). There he warned them that Gilbert was selling them out, revealed Caspian’s origin, and sent them to Holst to find a cure for the plague — “the easiest blackmail I’ve ever undertaken” (e04 01:12, e04 01:16, e04 01:19, e04 01:20).
